The Bottom Line: For $40 or less, it's hard to complain. The average person will be satisfied -- watch collectors may need something bigger or more garish.
thegsrguy's Full Review: Tech Swiss Watch Box Leather Case for 4 Watches
Anyone who has a watch needs a watch case. All too often people simply throw their watch (literally) on the nightstand or desk, or just toss it in the drawer. In a matter of weeks, the watch will undoubtedly look awful. Hence the need for some sort of watch case or organizer.
Tech Swiss has filled the need of an inexpensive watch case quite well. At around $40, this case won't break the bank; if you own one of the more moderately priced Citizen or Bulova watches, spending $40 to keep $400 looking pristine is well worth it -- and if you own several nice watches, it makes the value that much more apparent.
The case is classy and simple, and doesn't jump out at you. It is finished in a nice textured brown leather that doesn't look too phony or beat-up. The latch is a no-frills gold plated affair with no obnoxious ornamentation or emblems. The size of the case is just right -- it easily fits in a drawer or on a desk, and won't scream out "look at this obnoxious watch case."
The inside is finished in a matching brown suede; again, nothing obnoxious or unusual here. Each watch sits on an oval "pillow" that can be squished or flexed a bit depending on the watchband. I suppose you could place rings or other jewelry in it as well if you simply remove the watch pillows. The inside of the lid has a storage compartment for extra bands, batteries, pins, or anything else. I store an extra strap and pins in there.
The hinge has a smooth and precise action, but you cannot open the case very far beyond 90 degrees. The lid also does not stay open, so don't count on using this for showing off your watch collection. The latch clicks shut smoothly as well, and is easily opened by pressing the two small buttons. A cheesy lock is provided with a key, should you want to keep little Timmy away from your Rolex. (this lock can easily be opened with a pair of needle-nose pliers, FYI)
Again, there's nothing terribly epic about this case, but it's really hard to say it's a bad case at $40. It's certainly better than leaving watches strewn across the room, and it could be somewhat useful for organizing other jewelry too.
The only real fault I can find, and this is not really Tech Swiss' fault, is that certain watchband designs are not easily wrapped around the pillows. Some sport watches do not offer much flexibility around the lugs -- the bands are often integrated into the casing, which makes spreading the band open around the pillow a bit tricky. Not the end of the world, but it's frustrating if you don't have all leather or metal-band watches.
