Pros: They are the industry standard.
Cons: So is the pc versus the mac.
The Bottom Line: When you regard mixing as matching the tempo of records by slightly adjusting the pitch, go for the mk2. If you want musical freedom, creativity and control... read on.

| whauffend's Full Review: Technics SL-1200M3D Turntable |
When I set out to buy new decks, of course I went for these beasts. And why not: they are rugged, well performing and (after the stinging pain in your purse when you buy them) they keep their value. Most important though: every club features these decks in the booth, even in most bars you'll find a set of these to do your thing on. So you better know how to handle them.
By no means will I diss the mk2: it is to dj-ing what the Porsche 911 is to driving: a very, very well conceived design that changed the face of the world of music. Everyone who spends his or her money on it is making a good choice. But after some hands on experience on a set of Numark TTX1 decks, I forgot all about Technics.
Packed with more than double the torque and a set of well devised features, the TTX1 allows you to do creative things that are just impossible with the SL. When rehearsing at home you can still switch over to 'Technics-mode' with the limited /- 8% pitch and no key lock if you want to. Should you want to...
The pure thrill to make a mix by not only matching the tempo of the two records but by matching the key as well is an important step ahead in the art of dj-ing. And, in contrast to the Gemini 6000, the TTX1 has a clear layout with few controls and a very sure shooting feel about it. Bravo!
One thing I must express though, is my disgust at the Microsoft-type move Technics made by introducing the 'new and improved' MK3. The sheer arrogance of raising the price, putting on a retainer for an extra head shell (hmm, smart move against the TTX1 - not) and a pitch-reset button is stunning. But I am sure the designers at Technics are blasting though a case of pencils per day to come up with a really new model that stands firm next to the sl1200, which I hope they will continue to make and sell at an appropriate entry-level price.
This mac-man chose the Lamborgini instead of the Porsche. I pay big respect to the Technics sl1200/10 mk2, and send out a warm welcome to Numark for giving us a real choice with this highly evolved machine.
