I am a sworn user of Clinique’s Rinse Off Eye Makeup Solvent. It’s $13.50 for 4.2 oz and I blow through it FAST!
I’ve pretty much ditched the whole Clinique line, but I haven’t ever found an eye makeup remover that is strong enough to remove most of my eye makeup, yet not burn or bother my eyes. So many other brands of eye makeup remover either burn my eyes or are oily. Which I hate!
Since I sell The Body Shop products now, I’ve had the opportunity to try a bunch of new ‘stuff’. One of them is The Body Shop Chamomile Gentle Eye Makeup Remover. I’m now a convert and I’ve weaned myself from Clinique, totally!
The Product:
The Body Shop Chamomile Gentle Eye Makeup Remover is a best seller for The Body Shop! This eye makeup remover is a non-oily, fragrance-free cleanser that gently removes water resistant make-up. And the website says it also conditions your lashes.
I did a little research on Chamomile, and at www.paulaschoice.com says Chamomile is an “herb that has research showing it to have anti-irritant, soothing, and antioxidant properties.” Many people only know Chamomile in the form of a yummy soothing tea, but chamomile is also being used for medicinal purposes in the form of anti-inflammatory pain and is even taken internally for intestinal distress…i.e. diarrhea. It was even recommended I steep a mild tea and put it in a bottle for my colicky baby.
Its soothing properties and gentleness make it a great ingredient to use in products for the eyes.
To use, just apply the liquidy solvent to a cotton pad (I find a pad works better than a cotton ball, but either can be used) and gently rub on eyes to remove eye makeup.
Ingredients:
Water, glycerin, polysorbate 20, coco-glucoside, sodium cocoamphoacetate, benzyl alcohol, phenoxyethanol, sodium laureth sulfate, rose water, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) extract, citric acid, methylparabenm disodium edta, butylparaben, ethylparaben, isobutyparaben, propylparaben.

My Experience:
I’m here to tell you, this is by far the best eye makeup remover I’ve ever used. It removes my regular eye makeup like nothing else. I hardly rub my eye at all and all of the makeup is GONE! When I make up my eyes, I use several items. I use a water-resistant eye base, a few different colors of shadow, eyeliner and black mascara. So for me, it usually takes a good bit of gentle rubbing, and many times a double removal to get all my makeup off. Even with my Clinique, I was still left with visible eyeliner on my lid sometimes. But I was ok with that, because the Clinique worked better than any other.
I’ve had some customers ask me how this product works on waterproof mascara. I do not use waterproof mascara, so I can not comment on how the product works in this regard. However, one of my customers removed her waterproof mascara in front of me this weekend and she said it got most of it off. Use your best judgement in that regard.
When I’m sampling this product, I draw a line of black eyeliner on the back of my hand. I drop a few drops of this water-like eye makeup remover on a cotton pad, and in two swipes of the pad (up and back) the black eyeliner is GONE! Then I let my customer try it! They oooh and ahhhh and then buy some. Because EVERYONE who wears eye makeup should be using a remover specifically made for the eyes. If you’re using soap, you could be promoting further aging and damage to your sensitive eye area.
Think of the skin under your eyes like tissue paper, the skin on your body like a brown paper bag (nice huh…well it’s better than thinking of it like an old saddle bag…right??) and the skin on the bottoms of your feet like corrugated cardboard. So how you treat your brown paper bag is not going to be how you treat your tissue paper…right? You want to treat your eye area very gently, without pulling and tugging and without harsh detergents, which will dry out that area and promote and increase fine lines. And we all know fine lines are the enemy!
I believe The Body Shop Chamomile Gentle Eye Makeup Remover to be a five star product. I love that it doesn’t burn my eyes when used. I love that it’s reasonably priced for so much product. I love that it’s unscented. And I mostly love that it removes my eye makeup quickly and without insessant scrubbing and rubbing.
