| emkaysmommy's Full Review: The First Years 3-In-1 Reclining Feeding Seat 1099 |
The First Years reclining seat came unassembled. It was relatively easy to put together; you simply snap each part into place and thread the lap and security belts through two slots at the back of the seat. The chair features a padded seat back, plastic seat bottom with a leg divider to keep child secure and in place in the chair, an adjustable lap belt and a removable tray. The base also has two belts with which to secure it to a regular dining room or kitchen chair - one goes around the back of the chair to which you are securing it, the other underneath. On each side of the reclining seat are two buttons which you press to adjust the angle of the seat. The padding comes off the seat back for cleaning.
I received this item as a baby shower gift. I chose not to get a high chair because my house is too small to accomodate one. I really like this alternative. The chair is easy to clean, easy to get kids into and out of, and works well with kids from a few months to a few years. The removable tray is small enough to get into the kitchen sink for really big messes. Older kids enjoy being able to sit at the table without the tray, as though in a booster seat. The reclinable seat makes it easy to introduce solids to a young baby at a slight angle, and the fully-reclined option helps parents welcome an infant to mealtime and include them in the family ritual of eating together. The two restraining belts used to secure the seat to an adult chair work well - my seat doesn't budge, even when I drag the chair around or sit a wriggling toddler in it.
The only problems I have had with this product are that it is difficult to change the recline setting - you have to press two oddly shaped "buttons" and push or pull on the seat to force it into position. The first few times I did it to change the angle from baby to toddler, it was really tough, but once I got the hang of it it was easy. If you only intend to use it for one child, it's really not an issue. I also wish it had a pad for the seat bottom, to make it more comfortable for the child. It is just hard white plastic. Perhaps they will add that feature to subsequent models.
Overall, this is a great alternative to a full size highchair and will serve families with limited space or limited funds well. It is appropriate for a child's first 3 years.
I believe the gift registry listed this item at around $40.00
