Pros: Many new interactions and Sims; many fun places to go and fun things to do.
Cons: Runs very slowly; Sims' status bars decrease very quickly while in the city.
The Bottom Line: This game was already great, but Hot Date only adds to the fun you and your Sims can have. A must-have for anyone who has the original Sims game.
laurashrti's Full Review: The Sims Expansion: Hot Date (Mac)
I got the original the Sims game a long time ago, and have bought all the expansion packs since then. When Hot Date came out, I was very excited because the commercials made it look very fun; they showed Sims interacting more and in different environments.
When I first installed Hot Date on my computer I noticed immediate differences from before I had the Hot Date expansion. The first thing I noticed was that the game ran quite a bit slower than before. Among the other differences were the way interactions were set up, the different items, and the option to go to the city.
New Features:
One new feature, and perhaps the most notable, is the option to go to the city. Your Sims can phone a cab and be taken to the city where you have several destinations to choose from. Your Sims can now go shopping, eat in restaurants, and meet other Sims (some of which are non-playable) in town. Sims can pick up items from town, such as magazines or clothes and now have an inventory to keep those items for later use or to give to another Sim.
Another new feature is the change in interactions. Interactions are now made available in a tree format; for example, if your Sim chooses to greet another Sim, you can now choose how they want to greet them. Would they rather shake hands or share a polite kiss? There are several new additions to the interactions as well as this new format.
Yet another addition is the variety of new objects. There is now a vibrating bed where your Sims can play, as well as a Love Tub and a fish pond.
The Sims Hot Date is an excellent addition to a game that was already awesome. Now your Sims can have more friends and more fun. This expansion basically focuses on interacting. The only bad things about this expansion are, as I already stated, that is slows the game down a lot. The other bad thing is that your Sims' status bars decrease really quickly while in the city, making it hard to really do a whole of dating and hanging out in the city.
All in all, I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who loves the original The Sims game.
