nancyj2's Full Review: Jeffery Deaver - The Stone Monkey: A Lincoln Rhyme...
Jeffrey Deaver is another of my all time favorite authors. Once more, he has written another page turner, as good as, if not better then The Bone Collector, Coffin Dancer or Empty Chair.
Once again, the famed criminologist and quadriplegic Lincoln Rhyme's is teamed up with the ever beautiful Amelia Sachs. Recruited by the FBI, they must go after a ruthless Chinese immigrant smuggler called the ghost. On his way to the states with his latest human cargo, his plan for a quiet unnoticed landing comes to a complete halt. To avoid capture, he blows up the ship and escapes in a raft to the NY shore. Much to his shock, he finds that two immigrant families have also survived and gone into hiding. The ghost, however, is determined to hunt down and kill every last survivor. With only 48 hours to go, Rhymes and Sachs must race against time using every ounce of Rhyme's extensive forensic knowledge and skill to save the immigrants. A must mention new character is the engaging Chinese Detective, Sonny Li. Li and Rhymes clash often over whether leg work or hi-tech will solve the crime. Through grudging cooperation, at times, and using they own unique abilities, they learn a new found respect for the other, allowing them to solve this crime.
The Stone Monkey is everything you expect from a Deaver book. The plot twists, to numerous to mention, the emotional involvement with the characters, and naturally the high suspense is all here.
