| sweeterin's Full Review: The Westin Peachtree Plaza |
The Westin Peachtree Plaza is a true lodging commodity in the heart of downtown Atlanta. Upon arrival, a valet attendant approached our car and gave us a cordial greeting. A short ride up the escalator led us to an expansive lobby, complete with a Starbucks cafe and the check-in area. The wait was fairly short, and when we reached the counter we were again greeted by a friendly member of guest services and offered our choice of a lower or higher room in the hotel. We opted for the higher room and were assigned the 48th floor, about 2/3 of the way to the top of the building.
The room was amazing- superbly clean and spacious with modern tones and floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Our room overlooked Centennial Park, CNN Center, Philips Arena, and the Georgia Dome. In the distance you could see I-75 and the sign for Turner Field. Had we been just a few floors higher we would have been able to see the stadium, but the Equitable building blocked our view. The view alone is worth the money you spend to stay at this hotel- even on the 48th floor you are dwarfing most of the other buildings in Atlanta. But Westin also offers their Heavenly Bed and Bath, which are also worth raving recommendations. Quite possibly the best night's sleep you'll ever have with its thick comforter, soft down pillows and plush mattress padding. The shower offers dual heads with various settings for your relaxation.
The location is premium; only 2 blocks from most of the downtown attractions and public transportation is convenient.
If you are interested in seeing the best view in and of the city of Atlanta, take the glass elevator ride (unlimited times and free with your stay) to the 72nd floor, where the Sundial restaurant and lounge makes its mark. You are allowed to walk around on a platform and view the city through telescopes that permit you to see miles away with undisturbed clarity. Signs on the wall describe the area you are viewing. The lounge is plush and dark with lovely candles to set a mood, and although the drinks are pricey, the alcohol content within is nothing to complain about. The lounge rotates 360 degrees every 35 minutes, allowing a perfect view of the entire city while you relax. The restaurant serves up delectable dishes; for example, grilled swordfish with asparagus drizzled in cream brulle sauce. Again, the menu is pricey; around $30 per plate, but the food is excellent, and the view of the city is worth every penny. The restaurant takes you over 720 feet above Atlanta, and rotates once every hour.
Our checkout was rapid and easy, and picking up our car from valet only took about 5 minutes. Let me warn you that valet costs $20 a day, so that can often be a hidden expense you were not expecting upon arrival. There is a parking garage across the street, but we opted to pay the extra money to have a safe place for our vehicle. Also, we got a discounted rate on the room. Westin offers these discounts over the internet occasionally throughout the year, so keep an eye out for these rates- you can't pass them up! Normally a room will cost you at least $120 a night.
I highly recommend this amazing hotel!
