Huckleberry Toys Tick-Tock Gwen - Alice is Wonderland meets Haute Couture!

Pros: a hot little doll who is ready to rock the playroom
Cons: none - can be hard to find, but worth the effort
The Bottom Line: Barbie better cover her bottom line, because the Gwen Stefani dolls are ready to kick some booty and become the new Queens of the fashion doll world.
In my constant effort to oust Barbie as ruler of the fashion doll kingdom in my house, my next logical Gwen Stefani doll purchase was Huckleberry Toys Tick-Tock Gwen - dressed is her best regal ensemble, she could surely dethrone the blonde one and show who is Queen of the toy box.
As mentioned in my other review of a similar doll, the Gwen Stefani line of dolls is available exclusively through Target and Target.com – I haven’t seen them in my local store, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. I believe they became available for sale in early to mid-January and retail for $19.99 – the suggested age is 6 and up (due to small parts and much more realistic than Mattel saying a Barbie with 30 small parts is OK for a 3 year old).
Huckleberry Toys has 8 dolls available – based on videos and the whole Love, Angel, Music, Baby theme – picking this one was easy – who doesn’t like a pretty blonde dressed in a naughty Alice in Wonderland outfit? OK, so for me that wasn’t the deciding factor, for you – who knows? My 9 year old happens to love the song What You Waiting For? so it was a no brainer picking this doll.
As with the other concert/video dolls in this line, Gwen comes dressed as she was in the video – I might add here the attention to detail in the look and costume are fabulous – plus they are high quality and stand up to being played with. For some the only minor issue may be that Gwen is only 10” high, so unless you swap outfits with another doll, you don’t have many options for how she looks. I don’t mind the fact that she isn’t as tall as Barbie – she proves to girls everywhere that size doesn’t matter – she could take out that 11 ˝” bimbo with one Harajuku girl tied behind her back.
The doll comes dressed in a very sexy/short Alice in Wonderland dress – I suppose it’s considered high fashion and something you might see on an America’s Next Top Model shoot – storybook sweethearts turned into sexy sirens. The ruffles, ribbon and lace detail are fabulous and sure make it seem like they should charge more for the doll – I’m sure Mattel would crank up the price if they put that much effort into an outfit. While the skirt is short and the top somewhat low-cut it is very tasteful and you don’t get the normal boobs a popping outcome typical with a Barbie doll in a tiny top.
Gwen’s hair is very pretty – pulled back and held in place by a black headband. The bottom is curled and we have yet to comb it for fear of it not holding the shape. Her face is more anime – like Bratz and My Scene dolls – her makeup is delicate and appropriate and her lips are coated in the classic siren red lipstick Gwen wears most of the time.
Unlike Barbie, her white pantyhose are painted onto her legs – so there is no struggling for kids to get them on and off. On her feet she wears open-toed platform shoes with her toenails painted red. You can almost see her getting into some catfight with Barbie and plating her tiny shoe smack dab in the middle of Barbie’s face – “I said less makeup is more”. – WHAM!
Tick-Tock Gwen comes with lots of extras and is nicely packaged – I feel with all you get and the total look of the product the price tag is justified. Along with the doll you get a decent sized poster of Gwen in the same outfit, a bunny mask, crown, scepter, cape, comb (larger and shaped like a crown/tiara), and a decorated mirror for your child and an anime trading card of the doll.
Overall I love these dolls, they are poised to swing the mood of playroom from fake and plastic to rockin and fun. These dolls stand up to being played with and also look cute posed on a shelf. I think its fun for my girls to have to these dolls – they have loved Gwen for years and I think it’s cool that they wanted these dolls. If you have a Gwen Stefani fan in your life, I’d highly suggest this as a gift item – I’m sure the recipient would be thrilled.
