Pros: Family style table service is unique, huge portions, even for three!
Cons: Just what to eat, what to eat, what to eat. Wonderful choices!
The Bottom Line: Tony's would be kid and vegetarian friendly, especially with the eggplant and plain pasta if needed. This was a highlight of my trip, excellent NYC Italian Cuisine!

| JBduckling's Full Review: Tony's Di Napoli |
Tony's Di Napoli Italian Restaurant has been a New York City and Times Square dining tradition for over 50 years! The waiter mentioned to us Tony's is authentic old-time New York Italian restaurant with family home style recipes, never changing in a half a century! Thecooking comes from Southern Neopolitan traditions, and are served up in huge family style platters that serve 2 to 3 people. The recipes have been handed down to their children who have continued to bring our traditions to you. I really felt I was dining at their family dinner table!
The Tony's Di Napoli we visited is located right off of Times Square, on 147 West 43rd Street. We were part of a large party, so I do not have the exact prices but I was welcome to take a menu with more for reference sake. The first thing I was greeted by, outside the friendly staff, was a portrait of Chazz Palmenteri, star of "A Bronx Tale." This is part of the in-house Entertainment Icons Gallery which showcases original paintings featuring some of Broadway's brightest stars. Tony's resident artist creates these portraits and presents them to the stars right in their dressing rooms. The paintings are then displayed on Tony's gallery wall. The Icons Gallery has quickly become a new, exciting Broadway tradition for the restaurant.
But the attraction? The food, and more food, and more, and more! Our group was nearly 100, and we were seated in the lower level in tables of eight. We had wonderful wine selections, red and white (chilled). I am not a wine drinker so I cannot tell you what the brand or quality was. I do know my diet Pepsi glass was constantly filled!
First appetizer, serving 2-3 people with healthy appetites was Mazzarella in Carrozza, deep fried to a melted chewy texture, Carrozza sauce was outstanding, tomatoey, but not terribly spicey. ($14)
Second appetizer was Calamari Fritti, deep fried, light and tasty! Simply excellent, and did not toughen up when it was cooling down, I used lemon to enjoy the full flavor. ($17)
Pasta serving number one was Baked Ziti Napolitano, with sausage and other meats, all served in a casserole. ($20) Second pasta was the raviolo di napoli, excellent tender, cheese with some meat, a perfect mix, hiqh quality! ($19)
Our entire table fought over the Eggplant Parmigiana, as this was their five star specialty. ($22) The eggplant was lighted breaded, perfect with the cheese, this was a winner, as the platter was clean! Somehow, our waiter found another platter for us to share, and it was the best. If you have to eat somewhere, sometime, I recommend the Eggplant Parmigiana at Tony's. Simply, the best!
By this time, we were very full, but the last three courses were still to come! Next, was the Veal Parmigiana, ($25) which Mrs. D said was tender, tasty, and cheesy, I could not eat another bite due to the excellence of the seafood linguine, with jumbo shrimp ($27). The tomato sauce was excellent, the seafood tender, and the linguine done perfect.
Finally, dessert! A mix of tiramisu, cheescake, and cannoli was presented to us. Along with a cup of coffee, I tasted the tiramisu, which was sweet and outstanding along with the world's best cannoli. ($15) Milwaukee has very good cannoli but Tony's was the best! Time to waddle out into the night and to Broadway for a show and a nap!
The decor is New York, a big menu on the wall, plenty of wood furniture. White linens, great service, and an excellent price. Booth and table seating is provided. When you think the prices listed are for 2-3 people, Tony's Di Napoli is a bargain on Times Square, along with world class New York Italian cuisine, it is the best!
