| jaybee8107's Full Review: Toshiba SD-1800 DVD Player |
I recieved this DVD Player as a present, because I had an extremely good report card.
At the time, I had already had a DVD Player, a crappy Funai product, that would never play anything...
So, one day, my mom and I walk into Best Buy, looking first at some memory cards, for my PDA, then, on to the DVD Players. She had known that the one that I had was sitting there, plugged in, and every day, I would sit there, and try to cure my problem, but nothing ever worked. So, we picked up this Toshiba, since it offered the most features, in a small body, for a small price. My mom has also had very good luck with 3 Toshiba TVs, so she knew it was a quality product.
The DVD Player can play DVDs (Duh...), CDs, CD-RWs (But they say not to try this), VCDs, and mp3 discs, and DVD-Rs. Quite an elaborate product. I do know this, it was certainly better than the one that I had...
Setup was easy. Just plug in the cables, and you're done. No other misleading, call for technical support crap, just plain and simple setup.
HOW DOES THE PICTURE LOOK? The picture output is wonderful. Toshiba even throws in special movie and cartoon settings, just to name a few. There's just so much fine tuning that you can do with this thing.
HOW IS THE SOUND? Sound output is amazing, but I have only experienced it on a Mono TV, so I can't really judge that. Maybe in a future update...
HOW EASY IS IT TO NAVIGATE THE MENU(S)? This is the hard part about the DVD Player. The menu display is not only tough to navigate, but the menus are not very descriptive. The Owner's Manual must be read for you to fully understand how to use the menu.
HOW IS THE REMOTE CONTROL? The remote control is simple, but it has all sorts of buttons. Toshiba was smart to put the Play, Stop, Rewind, etc. buttons on the top of the remote control for easy access.
LOADING THE DVD Player: Simple. The controls are easy to locate, but the writing on the DVD Player is quite small, so it may be a hassle to read for some people. A simple tray comes out, of a folding door, (The door folds down, and the tray comes out)
All in all, a great DVD Player. I'd buy it again, if I had a choice between 100 similarly priced and equipped models.
UPDATE 06-19-2003
Looks like this DVD player is holding up very well! I have not had one problem with it. It plays all sorts of DVDs, CDs, CD-RWs, and MP3 discs. I again, HIGHLY recommend this DVD player, or a similar model. Since the DVD player was purchased, my sister has also purchased a similar model (SD2900). It does a bit more than mine, but I don't mind.
Lovin my DVD player!
