I needed a wireless laptop for Pharmacy School, when I saw the price at Best Buy I ran out and bought this laptop. After rebate, I paid $1099 and also got a free Linksys wireless card.
Specs: P4 2.0gHZ, 40GB HD, CD/DVD Combo Drive, Floppy Drive, 256MB RAM, ATI Radeon w/16MB, 10/100 Base-T Ethernet, Modem, 2 USB, 1 Parallel, VGA Out, S-Video Out, Firewire and a big 15" screen.
Included Software: Lotus Smart Suite which includes a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation graphics, data base program, contact manager and a few other things. I already tried saving in Word 2000 format and it was seamless. Word could open the file easily. No need to spend money on Microsoft Office. I don't really like the interface as well as Office, but it was free.
I use this computer for school projects and surfing the internet. I don't play games, so I don't really care about the 16MB of VRAM. I put in a DVD just to test out the player and it played fine without any glitches. It scrolls through documents just fine. I can read email, I can surf the web, I can watch streaming video. I don't need graphics for anything else.
I like the feel of the keyboard. You can actually press down on the keys. There is also some key click, which I like. The track pad works really well. You can set an option that deactivates the pad while you are typing on the keyboard. Before I found that option, I was getting really frustrated by the cursor moving away while I was trying to write.
This laptop is very attractive with a nice blue case. It is almost as nice looking as the Apple Titanium Powerbook, which I loved, but that was $1,000 more money.
What I don't like: Windows XP. It is really clunky and almost cartoonish in appearance. Also, removing the Microsoft components is a struggle. Even though I remove the components, they magically reappear.
The laptop gets carried in my book bag. It isn't light, but it is lighter than some of my text books, so I don't mind.
This model is a closeout, so hurry up if you want to buy one.
