| shoplmart's Full Review: Turtle Wax Super Hard Shell |
In todays automotive waxing/detailing market there are many interesting claims. Some car waxes claim 'all natural ingredients', while many others claim 'the best shine possible.' Like many hair shampoo products many of these claims are plain "bull." I actually bought Turtle Wax Super Hard Shell car wax by default, as I was visiting family in a small town where other waxes such as 'Eagle One' etc. were not available.
Turtles Wax's Claims: Turtle Wax Super Hardshell Wax claims that it will bring back your car's shine, that it is safe for clear coats, and that it will last up to 12 months without having to reapply. This product boasts that it is safe to be used on all kids of finishes, including metallics, conventional enamels, and clear coats.
Active Ingredients: None indicated.
Note: This product comes in either a bottle, or a 14 OZ. can with an applicator (as purchased).
Ease of use/Directions: Despite what the 'can' literature says, this product is not easy to use, in-fact this has been one of the most difficult waxes I have ever used on my car. Applying the creamy like product is easy enough with the applicator, but removing the wax after it has dried is a whole different story. With the claim that this formula is much easier to use than its predecessor, it makes me wonder just how long it would take people to wax their car's before the updated formula. Like most conventional waxes, the car must be cleaned and prepped before using this product. Then one must go over one small section of the car at a time using circular motions, then you must wait for the product to dry ( about 5 minutes) and then buff out which can take some real effort if you apply it too thick. This product warns that you should avoid using this product on decals, vinyl, simulated wood, or flat paint. This product should also not be used in direct sunlight, or when the car is 'hot to the touch.'
My Experience: Besides the fact that this is one of the most difficult waxes I have used in the recent past, I have noticed that this wax overall works better than most waxes on the market, including Armor All car wax when it comes to a lasting shine. I do notice that every time I use this product I get a mass amount of bugs that make my car their grave yard. I'm not sure if it's the smell of the wax or what, but bugs just seem to love it. Surprisingly this product has been very faithful in shining my cars, with the low price and no ingredients indicated on the can I had my doubts, but alas the shine this wax leaves on my cars is comparable with the results of much more expensive car wax's such as 'Meguiars Gold Glass', or some of the exclusive waxes I have bought at auto shows. Streaking is also left to a minimum, unlike 'Meguiars Gold Glass' I can wax this any of my cars and I can not see swirl marks when I'm done. This wax continues to allow my car to shine for weeks after application.
Product Q&A:
Is this Product toxic? No indication on bottle that it's toxic, however, as with all drugs, house hold cleaning products, etc. this wax should be kept out of the reach of children.
How long does it take to use this product? For a small car it takes me about 2 hours to wash, clean, wax, and buff. I imagine it takes much longer with larger cars, i.e a Lincoln Town Car.
How often do I need to use this product? The literature on the bottle claims 1 time per year, however I refuse to go over 3 months without waxing my car.
How long does a 14 oz. can last? Of course this varies on the size of your vehicle. With once a year applications I imagine this product would last for at least 5-10 years for most vehicles.
Price and Availability: This product can be purchased at almost any drug, large grocery, automotive, or discount department store for about $5.99. Satisfaction is guaranteed.
Conclusion: This is a hard, muscle building wax to use, but it works great. If you got the time, then this wax is worth a try.
