| daquan's Full Review: Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail |
WHAT'S THE 411 ON THIS MOVIE?
Tyler Perry has done it again! Mr. Perry has practically built and empire for himself, producing and starring in comedy films in which he dresses up as a tall mean bad tough-as-nails fiesty grandmother who just LOVES to get even with people who think that they can just put one over on her and get away with it!! This has been the case with Tyler Perry's Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Why did I Get Married, The Family That Preys and Madea's House Party.
Tyler even plays Madea on occasion in his show, Tyler Perry's House of Payne!
Madea Goes to Jail is definitely no exception! The hilarious antics of Madea and her outrageously silly, crazy and often dysfunctional family are always up to no good and they just can't seem to stop getting into trouble with the law! And every day just seems like a never-ending battle for Madea Simmons whose "Dirty-Harry-style" tactics always rears its ugly head, as she boldly and blatently takes the law into her own hands, making sure that no one is going to stop her from doing what SHE wants to do or saying what she wants to say! Anyone who dares to get in her way has pure hell to pay!!
WHAT IS THE STORYLINE OF THE FILM?
The storyline begins with Madea's family at home wondering what kind of trouble she might be getting into. Madea and Cora are out to do an errand picking up groceries for the house. While eroute to the store, a vehilce deliberately cuts them off and gets in front of them. Not one to just brush that off and let it slide and leave well enough alone, Madea literally pushes Cora to get even with the guy. Taking matters into her own hands, Madea grabs the steering wheel of their SUV and sideswipes the guy, making him crash into a building!
The comical misadventures and hilarious goings-on with Madea continue, as she continues to always end up being on the wrong side of the law. In court because she recently violated a previous house arrest stipulation, she tries to smooth things over with, and then sweet-talks and bribes the first judge (played by Divorce Court's Judge Mabeline Ephraim) Being tough as nails herself, she would like nothing better than to send Madea to the slammer. But a newly discovered tecchnicality prevents her from doing that. The officer who Madea beat the living hell out of has left out valuable info that could have nailed Madea, and so, she is let go.
But Madea doesn't stop there, no! This fiesty hard-nosed acid-tongued gun-toting granny just won't mind her own business and she blatently gets even worst, driving without a license, driving sporatically, recklessly making peoples' lives a living nightmare and just being plain bad to the bone!! While in court, she vowed that she would do right by the judge and start going to church. Hmmph!!! No sooner is she back on the streets, going to church is the furtherest thing on her mind!! "Yeah, I'll go by the church. There, we just went by it!"
Enter her brother Joe, who looks like he has one foot in the grave and one out, who also is on oxygen for breathing problems, but still enjoys smoking weed and getting high! He throws a house party in celebration of Madea being saved from going to jail.
When asked if she was upset about the party and all those strange people being in the house, Madea says; "No, I'm not upset." But then she goes upstairs, comes back down and clears the house with her machine gun!!
The wild antics of Madea only serve to get even more violent, vicious and outrageousely funny as she gets even with a woman at the Kmart parking lot for allegedly stealing her parking space. Madea just won't stop being a vigilante! She never lets things go as is and, like a stubborn little boy, she always has to have the last word and bit of action. The outlandishly funny, crazy madness and antics don't let up!!
Meanwhile, a young attourney Joshua (played by Derek Luke, who also starred in Antwone Fisher and Notorious) has a friend that he's known for a very long time, Candace (Keishia Knight Pulliam from the Coby Show & House of Payne), who is a hooker, drug addict and homeless. Joshua is engaged to be married to a beautiful but evil self-centered prosecuter who is enraged with jealousy because it seems as though every time she wants to spend some quality time with Joshua, she finds out that he is helping Candace by having her over to the house and is spending the night there. Joshua's wife-to-be gets upset and storms out.
Back with Madea, she goes back to court and, this time, she meets & faces Judge Greg Mathis who is also a no-nonsense judge. He looks at her files and finds out that she has a rap sheet stretching from New York to San Francisco, and he automatically sentenses her to 5 - 10 years! Things do not get any better, as Candace is also there after being lured into an undercover cop's car when she propositions him to buy her for sex. She gets 17 years!
A fight soon erupts in the prison's laundry room when Candace is approached and sexually harrassed by a big burley lesbian who has the hots for her. Madea boldly intercepts, telling her; "You better back up out of my face! You don't know who you're messing with!" Of course, Madea isn't going to let this one slide either! She and Candace easily dispatch the woman and stops her from making her inappropriate advances to her.
Joshua (Luke) soon learns about some very disturbing news from his best friend and coworker that his fiancee` is cheating the justice system of law by deliberately setting up and fixing convicted felons to get extended prison time. Candace is upset with Joshua for not helping her years ago when she was being brutally raped by an assailant. Joshua makes good on his mistake by offering to help Candace get her life back on track and away from the dangerous lifestyle that she once was a part of.
It is learned that Madea, Candace and several other immates are about to be set free due to the scandelous schemes of Joshua's now ex having been revealed.
Madea must still go to counceling and anger management. There, she is counceled by none other than Dr. Phil himself! She drives him out of his mind because she seems to always be counter attacking him with smirky comments and answering his own questions with questions of her own!
WHAT ELSE?
Things began to take a new twist for Madea, as special appearances by Whoopi Goldberg, Steve Harvey, Wanda Smith, Tom Joyner, The Rev. Al Sharpton and Michael Baisden all come out and publicly defend her! Eventually, scores of people come out to ralley for Madea to try to get her freed from prison. Joshua's ex is later charged with a felony of obstructing justice.
HOW WAS THE FILM?
I think the film was very hilarious and funny! Because it details the outrageously funny antics of Madea as she goes on a rampage, takes matters into her own hands and has a very gutsy don't-gave-a-crap attitude and she will not pass up the opportunity to get even with anyone who tries to screw her over!
IN SHORT:
You MUST see this movie!! It is hilariously funny! I laughed so hard that my sides were aching!! Good comedy and fun for the whole family!
FINAL THOUGHT?
This is one outrageous, outlandish and very funny film. And even though there was a very sad moment in the fim with Derek Luke, the movie not only focused on Madea, but also other parts where there is romance, seriousness, beauty and deceipt.
But still, Madea has the center stage of attraction as she never gives up on being very dominant in her efforts to get back at the ones who have crossed her path! And even better, no characters wre killed off!!
