Uh Oh, Baby by Wendy Cheyette Lewison has been a favorite book of my children since they were quite young. The charming antics of "baby" in this book, are very real to young children, and the lift the flap feature of this book appeal to even the littlest "readers".
Uh Oh, Baby is the story of a young toddler. This baby tries to do various things throughout the story, and each time an "uh oh" happens. For example, the baby tries to drink some juice, but uh oh she spills it, she also tries to pet the kitty, but uh oh the kitty hides. Each new task the baby tries to do is met with another "uh oh" until finally, at the end of the story you see the biggest "uh oh" the big mess the baby has made in her room.
This small book, approximately, 3" by 5", is hardcover. Each page of the book is made of a slightly thicker paper, almost cardboard, but not as thick as a board book. The flaps, which are on each set of pages, are made of regular paper. This book is quite durable, and has withstood countless readings by my family. A few of the flaps have torn off the page, but I have been able to easily fix them with tape or glue, it may not look as nice as it orginially did, but it works.
Uh Oh, Baby, has simple, clear colorful illustrations. There are a few simple sentences on each set of pages, and each page contains the words, Uh Oh, on it. My children have enjoyed listening to this story and turning the flaps since before they were one year old. They even like to "read" this book to themselves, especially the Uh Oh parts. Everything that the baby does in this book, young children can relate to and have probably had the same thing happen to them at least once, such as spilling juice, drawing on the floor, or crashing a toy into blocks. My children continue to love to listen to this book today, even at the ages of almost 4 and almost 2, and it is usally is one of the first books they ask me to read each day. In my opinion, this book would make a great gift for any little one. I hope you and your family enjoy reading "Uh Oh, Baby" as much as we do.
