| japage's Full Review: Union Oyster House |
The Union Oyster House has been in continuous operation as a restaurant since 1826, the oldest in America. If for no other reason than that, it is worth eating there.
Located at 41 Union Street, it is in downtown Boston and located right on the Freedom Trail. The bar and live oyster bar is located on the main floor along with a few tables. The second floor is the main dining area with many quaint tables and secluded booths. It can be very dark and romantic or light and lively. You choose. One booth with a small bronze plaque was JFKs favorite booth when he dined there often. The third floor has a large banquet room.
The food is prepared fresh and the variety is outstanding. From live lobster to steaks and chops to hot dogs for the kids, there is something to please every taste. Servings are large. The clam chowder is some of the best I have ever had. You have to have a cup, at least!
Prices are in line with any other establishment in the area. We had three cups of chowder, a bowl of Boston Baked Beans and three entrees at a cost of $80. Our waitress was very pleasant and appeared to enjoy her work.
