Pros: Great picture & color, analog/digital inputs, extensive controls, cheap!
Cons: Viewsonic's dead pixel policy - everyone may not be as lucky as me.
The Bottom Line: With so many big screens out there, few have the picture (or price) of the VX 900.

| funkbuddy's Full Review: ViewSonic VX900 19 inch LCD Monitor |
I bought the VX 900 for my mother but decided to 'test drive' it myself for a few weeks before handing it over - who could have resisted? Finding a nice 15" lcd monitor isn't a problem - I saw many 15" screens that looked great - but finding a nice 19" lcd was another matter entirely. I had looked at many 19" lcds and, after not being impressed by any of them, ordered the VX 900 "sight-unseen" from a local dealer (with the decision based on assorted reviews I had read).
PROS: Image quality is absolutely superb (after going through an initial 10 minute setup procedure involving color calibration); colors were reproduced very accurately on-screen (as judged by digital camera pics). There are both analog AND digital inputs at the back of the unit, depending on whether you have a digital output graphics card or not. Looking at this screen was a joy and there was no eye fatigue whatsoever - what WAS hard was going back to looking at my own 19" crt when mom finally got it! The built-in functions are collected together in an intuitive on-screen menu system; there are enough fine-tuning capabilities here to keep even the fussiest of videophiles happy. Happily, I had NO dead pixels, which is great for a screen of this size. The monitor footprint (as with most lcds) is quite small and the styling is stylin'! As for price, it was surprisingly on the lower end of the scale.
CONS: Although I personally didn't have any dead pixels, Viewsonic's policy for 19" lcds is NO returns for 7 or less dead pixels - I find this number a bit high for something as expensive as an lcd. Fast-moving video looked pretty damn good, but there was a little hint of ghosting which demanding gamers might not like - this may disappear with a digital graphics card (which I don't have). There were no instructions on removing the small cover on the back of the lcd which conceals the power cord and video cable, so getting it off was a bit tense - you don't want to break you new toy before it's even fired up, right? (In the end, just gently wedge a plastic utensil under the lower middle and it pops right out.)
SUMMARY: I can't comment on the built-in speakers as I never used them from the start - I like to hear BASS in my music and I don't expect speakers such as these to give me thumping tunes. Otherwise, this is a very impressive 19" lcd which I won't be hesitating to purchase for myself in the near future!
