| gregpan's Full Review: Whistler DE-1630 Radar Detector |
Good detector but the plastic mechanism that holds the window bracket in place broke into multiple pieces after about 2 weeks. Now radar detector does not stay in window at all times. After talking to Whistler customer service in order to get a fifty cent plastic part replaced, I will have to pay $55. I was told that their repair department could not send me a replacement part. Most radar detectors I have seen incorporate an outside bracket to hold the detector in place, Whistler 1630 is internal and when metal brackets meet thin plastic parts the outcome is unpredictable. Other companies I have dealt with in the past are more than willing to send out cheap replacement part as opposed to having employees do repairs in house. The overall performance of the radar detector has been quite good but if the bracket cannot be secured so it will continue to hang in the window what good is it.
