criteeker's Full Review: Fit Battery Pack for Nintendo Wii
Many people who own a copy of "Wii Fit" with the balance board know how many batteries you go through. Many environment-conscious people have switched to either rechargeable batteries or this convenient rechargeable battery pack. After all, fewer batteries in land fills are a good thing. The rechargeable battery packs are essentially four batteries bound together in one plastic unit.
To recharge the pack, you simply plug one end into the pack itself and the other end into one of the USB ports on the back of the Wii console. My issue with this, is that you'll need to remove the battery pack from the balance board in order to charge the unit. Reason is that you will NOT be able to use the balance board while it's being charged. This leaves the board without power unless you have batteries standing by. This kind of defeats the purpose. My suggestion? Buy TWO rechargeable battery packs so when one runs dry, you can pop the other one in (while charging the other unit) and not lose game time on the board.
Note: If you use a rechargeable battery pack, the plastic door to the battery area of the Balance Board will no longer be needed because the battery pack's outer shell acts as the door and snaps into the board's battery area. Store the door in a safe place in the event that you're forced to use regular or single rechargeable batteries.
Now, the other issue. This non-Nintendo brand battery pack will, indeed, void Nintendo's warranty. Same sort of thing with cell phone accessories. The imported accessories with the "brand name" labels are okay, but the imported accessories that are not branded void the warranty. In short, you need to pay for the more expensive imported version in order to keep your warranty intact. My advice: If your balance board's warranty period has already expired, go for it. If you would rather protect the warranty of a newer board, buy the more expensive Nintendo brand battery pack.
Another thing to consider is the fact that the Nintendo brand battery pack is rated at a mere 700 mAh while this non-branded battery pack is rated at 2800 mAh. What does this mean? This non-brand name pack will last up to four times as long. And really, who doesn't like the phrase, "Lasts Longer?" In either case, best to have two battery packs or at least have four rechargeable batteries standing by.
Hint: Do what I did. Buy one of each and rotate them. That way, if there's ever a service issue, you can always say that you used a Nintendo brand battery pack. I purchased my non-Nintendo battery pack on eBay for around $6 while the Nintendo brand battery pack was purchased on Amazon for around $15.
Either way, use rechargeable batteries to help the environment just a little bit.
