If you've read some of my other reviews of Wilton products, you know I am a Wilton Method cake decorating instructor. As such, I have had experience with a great number of Wilton products. Even though I represent Wilton as an instructor, and part of my teaching job is to promote Wilton products, I am honest about my feelings about and experiences with products. If I don't like something about a Wilton product, I won't pull any punches.
That said, I am crazy about Wilton Disposable Decorating Bags!
Using Wilton Disposable Decorating Bags
These bags make cake decorating easy. While some consider them pricey, I find that their greatest value is in their convenience. Wilton Disposable Decorating Bags may cost a little more than other available disposable items used to contain frosting for cake decorating (such as parchment triangles, freezer bags, or other brands of disposable decorating bags. However, the quality of the plastic used in these bags is superior to others I have tried, which are either too thick (making them hard to use/uncomfortable in the hand) or too thin (easy to tear.) Parchment triangles are quite a bit less expensive, but the user must form each triangle into a cone shape to make a bag (tedious and time consuming), and secure it with tape or some other way to hold it together. Finished parchment triangle bags do not have the capacity to hold as much frosting as these disposable plastic bags. Freezer bags or other food storage bags are not meant for this purpose, and may not always work well, plus do not have the correct shape for the best results.
Wilton Disposable Decorating Bags are cone shaped, making them very easy to use. A decorator can simply drop a coupler base into the bag and push it down toward the point of the bag, cut off the extra plastic, and add the decorating tip they wish to use over the cut bag, securing the tip onto the bag with the coupler ring. It is also very easy to fold over the edge of the bag to make a cuff, fill the bag with frosting, fold up the cuff, and squeeze down the frosting toward the pointed end of the bag. Then the bag is ready to use!
Other Uses
One can use the Wilton Disposable Decorating Bags for other purposes as well. One of my favorite uses is in making candy. I put a few Wilton Candy Melts disks in a bag and microwave them to melt them. Then I snip off the end of the bag and use it to fill into candy molds or drizzle the melted chocolate on treats. This is a convenient and mess-free way to work with the melted candy melts; it is a task to get that melted candy off spoons, bowls, etc., and these bags eliminate that task.
You could also use these bags for other food presentation tasks, such as piping whipped cream on desserts. I can even imagine them being used to pipe fancy looking presentations of mashed or whipped potatoes, or other soft foods.
Price
Some people may think that the price of these bags is kind of high, but in most cases, the savvy consumer can buy a box of these bags at much lower than the retail price. Most stores that carry these bags (craft retailers such as Hobby Lobby and Michaels) offer 40% off coupons regularly. These can be used to buy the bags at a considerable discount.
This review refers to the box of 12 bags, Wilton item #2104-358 which has a retail price (at the Wilton store website) of $3.99. This comes out to $0.33 per bag. The higher quantity of bags you buy in a box, the better the deal. Wilton Disposable Decorating Bags also come in the following sizes:

In my opinion, these bags are well worth the cost, no matter what I pay per bag. I use them for both classes and my own personal use at last once every week, and I never go without them.
