I recently added the Veo to my home office for video conferencing with my clients. I have found for the price this little digital camera packs a punch.
This small unit which can sit atop you computer has a swivel base, built in digital microphone, focus dial and easy snapshot button. I have found the focusing unit to be extremely helpful when video taping objects at a distance. The other cameras in this price range I looked at only offered a small picture size of 320x240. This unit offers not only this size, but also 640x480 & 160x120.
The unit comes with 5 software titles which have been extremely helpful. The digital studio software allows me not only to create e-cards, but includes a movie maker and a homepage designer for beginners at making a website. The major software I required was the netmeeting software which allows me to video conference with my clients and family. As I live a distance from my family, it's nice to actually see them again.
Set-up of this unit is very basic. It is a plug and play unit that comes with an excellent manual for beginners to using a video unit. All titles are include on one CD, so you only download onto your computer what you really want to have. File storage is done in an AVI file format, while pictures can be stored in either JPEG or BMP file formats.
If you live in a dusty area as I do, the slide shutter will protect your lens while you are not utilizing this unit. It also has an LED on/off light to let you know when your camera is on.
If you are lucky enough to own one of the newer LCD monitors, there is an accessory included with this package called a Veo Spider Clip which allows you to quickly mount the unit on a flat panel monitor. As I do not own a flat panel monitor, I can't attest to the ease or function of this accessory.
As far as compatibility, the unit requires 200MB of hard disk space, with a 300MHz Intel Pentium or AMD K-6 processor. It works with all the latest MS Window based systems including XP & ME.
I have only found that I wish the 6 ft cord that comes with the unit were perhaps a bit longer. However, this can be rectified by purchasing a regular digital camera at a later time when I have master this unit and all its capabilities.
