| nagels's Full Review: Treats Yummy Chummies Salmon & Potato |
When we bought our first fish based food for the girls, it was with some skepticism. Fish is for cats! What if the other dogs in the neighborhood found out that Evie was a fish eater? What if they smelled it on the beautiful bichon's breath and made fun of her or shunned her when they met at the doggy park? I needn't have worried. Yes, these do have a distinctive salmony aroma, but it doesn't linger. Even if it did, the benefits far outweigh a little bit of piscinatosis.
Yummy Chummies Salmon and Potato
Yummy Chummies are made by Arctic Paws, a company in Anchorage, Alaska where it's not uncommon for man and dog to dine on salmon. Obviously I would gravitate to a potato laced treat but there are additional Yummy Chummy formulas like: Original Salmon, Salmon & Rice with Chicken Flavor, Salmon and Bacon, Crunchy Salmon, Salmon Jerky, Vita Chummy dog treats, and (yegads!) Premium Salmon Cat Treats.
Features: Soft and chewy Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids for skin and coat Reduces plaque and tartar buildup Baked in flavor and nourishment Refrigeration not required Made with wild salmon Excellent training treats, rewards, or bribes
Ingredients: Wild Alaska Salmon, POTATO starch, Vegetable glycerin, Propionic Acid, Natural smoke flavor, Citric acid, Garlic, Calcium carbonate, Natural mixed tocopherols and rosemary extract. Feeding instructions - Small dogs up to 15 pounds may have up to six treats a day. Medium sized dogs may have ten. This is why, (except for those planning to write a dog treat review) the bag of treats has a short life expectancy. Our experience - I bought a bag of these treats online when I purchased a large order of Bimples and special dog treats. I'd read another Epinion about Yummy Chummies and was intrigued. I had not doubt this new snack would be a hit because the favorite hit of the pooches is a little salmon based treat from Zukes. Going back at least ten years when we first figured out Evie had food allergies, we've bought any number of fish based foods and treats, most of them well received. Salmon, tuna, whitefish and a few others have been a part of the doggy diet. A clerk in a local pet shop recommended a Wellness fish formula and we've been sampling various fish recipes ever since. Some readers may be familiar with Eukanuba's Wild Salmon kibble.
Two snacks are/were still in the package, saved for this moment, a final taste sampling for this review. Evie and Piper sat eagerly side-by-side awaiting their Yummy Chummies. I teased them by allowing a long, drawn out sniff before giving them their treats. Within seconds the last of the treats were gone, preceded by some drooling, and following by some lip smacking and the longing stare asking for more. Alas the bag is empty. Now I'll have to pacify the girls with some lesser treat.
Finally - This is a great treat, despite the aroma of fish wafting from the bag. Our girls ate these with enthusiasm and gusto. I like the absence of junk fillers and artificial ingredients. This is real food for the dogs you love with the added benefit of the potato element within. Yes, these Yummies are heartily recommended from this quarter.
