Get a Zyliss Ladle for its Unique Squarish Shape

I was shopping for a ladle when one caught my eye. The Zyliss Ladle has an almost squarish shape, which is definitely unique. Since I have had success with some of their other products, I had no problem picking out this kitchen item. I paid about $6.99 for the ladle, at Linen’s N Things. With a $5 off a $15 coupon, you can get two or three kitchen items and basically get one free, which is a great incentive.
Appearance, Design & Features
Zyliss products have a trademark white and grey design. This is especially easy to find in stores that have Oxo products or even Kitchen Aid products, since kitchen items are less often white in color!
The top of the ladle has the Zyliss logo on it, as well as a hole for hanging. Nice and convenient for storage!
Performance
The Zyliss website description:
“ An angled handle and a flat base section guarantee that the ladle stays upright in saucepan. Suitable for apportioning and spreading. The specially developed diamond shape even allows the very last amount of liquid to be scooped up from the saucepan bottom.”
One of my decision-making factors was that I have a lot of non-stick pots and pans, so I need something that isn’t going to ruin them. The Zyliss Ladle is made from materials that are safe for these surfaces and won’t scratch them.
The square-ish shape is really nice to have with a ladle. It makes it easier to get more soup or whatever you are serving out of a serving container. It also makes it a little nicer for pouring. Instead of soup splashing around the edges of a round ladle, you have contouring that allows for more direct pouring.
The handle is nice and long, contoured for the shape of your hand. So even though it doesn’t have rubber grips or a texturized surface, it does make for a good grasp. The long handle is also perfect for making sure your ladle doesn’t submerge itself in food when you turn your back. And, it will keep one’s paws from being roasted when you’re cooking on the stove.
Zyliss Products Can Stain!!
This isn’t the first time I have stained a Zyliss product. I have a spatala that was stained by curry in the past. So although I was using a different mix of spices, I gained a rather unsightly curry stain on the ladle as well. It seemed to wash off for the most part, but there are definitely remnants of the yellow stain. I’m not concerned, because it doesn’t effect the performance of this product, and it also seems to become lighter with repeated washing.
Dishwasher Safe?
As I say in just about every Oxo and Zyliss review, I can never remember if these products are dishwasher safe, but they are. I’m very pleased about this, although I usually just wash them off right after using them.
Durability & Materials
”A careful test is made before manufacturing a Zyliss appliance to determine which of the various types of plastic has the most suitable properties to give the unit the longest possible service life if treated properly. All materials used by Zyliss are unaffected by foodstuffs and free from cadmium!.
“Zyliss warrants this product to be free from defects in material and workmanship for 5 years from date of purchase.”
I like the comfort of having a product backed by a guarantee. I can only hope that this means Zyliss is so confident in their products.
Downsides?
I wouldn’t say that the staining is a downside, but it does make the products a little less appealing to the eye. I could really care less, but I have come to expect Zyliss products to stain when I cook with curry. I don’t know what else will produce a stain on the ladle, but I’m sure they’re out there!
Overall
The Zyliss Ladle is a neat little product, mostly because of its unique shape. This is a good value, since it is a durable item that will last a long time.
