| jeanner's Full Review: Margot Adler - Drawing Down the Moon: Witches, Dru... |
I have been teaching Wicca since 1985 and have used this book in my Wicca 101 classes as a tool for information and to help my students to learn about the other paths that fall under the broad based term of paganism.
I am a strong believer in each person must find their own path to follow, if that be Wicca, Druidism, Dianic, Witchcraft, Shamanism, or a combonation of all the pagan paths.
This book is the most comprehensive book available to date that describes most of the paths that are under paganism. I say most because there are always new paths that emerge simply because of the ebb and flow of life and how we as people view life.
Margot Adler goes into great detail about many different paths, such as Druids, Dianics, Shamanism, Gardnerians and many more. She describes exactly what each of these religions believe in, how they practice, what creeds or reeds they follow and what holidays they observe. She gives great detail on how and when these paths were formed and if available she will state whom started the path.
Ms. Adler also gives names and address of Groves, Churches and or Covens that people can contact should they be interested in finding out more information or would like to learn from them.
In my opinion, there has never been a book written that goes into such detail. I make this book a reading requirement for all of my students and coven members.
If one is confused about what path to follow or where they fall into, or just can't find anything to call "home", this book will help them to decide where to go.
The Good Points:
Ms Adler is very descriptive in her writings on the paths and what is practiced. She gives names and address of people to contact. Ms Adler has extreme working knowledge of all of the paths during the time of her writing and can help those who feel lost find their way.
The Bad Points:
The book is very lengthy. Ms Adler does seem to go into great detail about the different paths in which some information could have been omitted.
