BRUJERIA's latest offering, "Brujerizmo" is much like the perfect death metal album. And it should be, given all the bands that are rumored to be tied with Brujeria. In fact, on the cover of the CD of Brujerizmo, there is a sticker that blazenly blabs the following:
"Rumored to feature members of FEAR FACTORY, FAITH NO MORE, NAPALM DEATH, CRADLE OF FILTH, DIMMU BORGIR. All of which are incredibly powerful bands and among the most well known and in my opinion, some of the best. With all these members of these bands contributing to one offering, your expectations are bound to be set pretty high. You won't be disappointed.
You won't be disappointed with Brujeria's previous offerings either. But on Brujerizmo, the band does something remarkable. The take all their raw energy and thunderous "Meshuggah" style chords and tighten them even more than before. The result is a truly memorable experience. So memorable, it is easily one of my favorite hardcore CD's of all time. It's that good!
There are 13 power hungry, tight and Matrix-intricate style evil death songs on Brujerizmo. They are:
BRUJERIZMO
VAYAN SIN MIEDO
LA TRAICION
PITITIS TE INVOCO
LABORATORIO CRISTALITOS
DIVISION DEL NORTE
MARCHA DE ODIO
ANTI-CASTRO
CUIDEN A LOS NINOS
EL BAJON
MECOSARIO
EL DESMADRE
SIDA DE LA MENTE
In case you aren't familiar with Brujeria, here's the scoop. Live shows are nonexistent save for 1 known appearance in which they appeared on stage in masks. That was a long time ago. Their identities are kept secret, although Roadrunner Records has obviously tried to capitalize on the rumors of all the bands that contribute by placing a sticker on the cover. The singers appear to be unknown, however the accents are authentic. The songs, lyrics and writings are unrecognizable if you don't speak Spanish. But don't let that stop you. Let's be honest, with metal this hard, this merciless, you can't understand the words even if they were in English. The theme of Brujeria seems to be Mercenaries fighting for the Latino community. Fighting injustice, racism and human cruelty with an equally wicked retaliation laced with witchcraft and paganism.
Be afraid.
Be very afraid.
FOR LONG-TIME OR TRUE FANS OF HARD MUSIC, ON a scale of 1 to 10, this ranks a 9+.
FOR NEWBIES INTERESTED IN METAL, this is a great introduction to the scene and style of music in general.
This is one of the tightest, most fiercesome death metal you will ever come across.
