This Bmw was my third bmw and will certainly not be my last. I purchased this 2001 Bmw 740il after driving the Mercedes benz s500 and being thouroughly disappointed. I got the sport package which comes with an awesome set of m parallel wheels as well as the redwood vavona trim which is beautiful. The car is dark blue which is also a beautiful color when matched with the grey interior and vavona redwood trim is certainly a great combination. My first 4 years of owning this bmw, while under warranty, were great for the most part. I had some minor problems mainly the cupholders not working correctly (german trait) and had all 4 power window motors replaced because they weren’t working too well. All of these things were replaced for free under warranty. It was nice having free maintenance however once the warranty is up be prepared to shell out 750 to 1500 dollars for 60k check up, 75k check up and so on. Also recently the heater control valves went out and will need to be replaced as the heater doesn’t work to its full potential and the trim pieces on some of the doors are losing their clips. Another issue is the windshield black molding which is cracking. The car has 80k miles and I have accepted this as being just an older car. As far as comfort and drivability – the seats are quite comfortable, the car is quite agile for its size and the engine provides ones foot with enough grunt to be happy. I average about 19 mpg (17 low end, 23 high end). Overall I am still a bmw lover.
