| psyclebabe's Full Review: DHL USA Overnight |
My company decided to use DHL as their overnight carrier. 1. Local overnight - deposited in their pick up box disappeared - never to be found again
2. Local overnight - a week later deposited in their pick up box - same as before (I assumed the first pkg was ok so used them a second time). Since I did this myself I knew exactly what time I had left it in the box that clearly says they will empty the box at 6pm. It was 5:38 - being a GOOD courier I am very precise about times and when I put the pkg in the box I wrote down the time as is my habit to do. It was picked up the following day at 5:34. Clearly 24 hours late BUT 26 minutes AHEAD of schedule. Pity the people who actually believe (as I did) that when the sign says 6pm it does not mean that you have until 6pm to get your package in the box. No no no it means the driver will be on the highway by 6pm. Of course I could not in good conscience CHARGE my client for this shoddy service. I paid a courier for the first pick and drop, and I paid DHL (not me personally - I would have fought it and dug my heels in but - corporate paid!) and I lost a nice little new client over this.
3. Intercity overnight - Christmas cards for delivery to clients in another city. This package spent a day in their warehouse because of a breakdown of some sort. At least they KNEW where it was. 3 days for an overnight between two major cities. There were no apologies. I cannot get angry at the unfeeling staff because it must be terrible to work for such an inefficient company! My company makes so few mistakes that when it happens (and it is inevitable that a mistake will happen...eventually)it feels terrible. I am apologetic and accept full responsibility. I do everything I can to fix it and the customer DOES NOT pay.
4. Can you believe there was a fourth time? My corporate office wanted a package sent. I was completely prepared to use the Post Office. I called to make certain that was ok but no, they preferred me using DHL. OH MY GAWD! I put it in the pick-up box at 11:09 (a different one this time) Surely the driver would not empty the box before noon! Three days later the president of my company received the package. Later that day, I got a call asking me to set up an appointment with a different courier.
The time period was three weeks.
Word to the wise: It might be a good idea to ask how many people work in the tracing department when you are comparing companies. Pick the company with the smallest tracing department relative to their total activity. I'd guess they are better. My company had a special tracing person assigned in the cities we are in! Gee - Now I know why!
At this point I do not know who we will be using in the future but I can comfortably say it won't be DHL
