| radzhome's Full Review: UPS Standard to Canada |
I have used ups a few items now with poor results. First thing that I had delivered via UPS was an ebay item which I won for $40. It was a wireless network card for my laptop, coming from the USA. I told the person to see if they can make it out as a gift, in which-case they did and when it got to me ups charged me $39 CAD for COD brokerage fees which no one was aware of. This was nearly 90% of what I paid for the item so I was not happy. Especially given the fact that there should be no customs on gifts but UPS put one there anyways because they are their own broker, and charge customs even if no customs are actually charged at the border. (Its basically a scam). I had a long conversation with a rep and thats what they told me, even if no customs were actually charged at the border, UPS takes your money for "bringing the goods over the border". I found this quite funny but the rep was serious.
The second time I had to use UPS was on a shipment also coming from the USA. It was springs for my car and I got them for $50 US on ebay. The package came and ofcourse UPS tried to charge me $45 for brokerage fees.. I told the guy that its too much and that I only paid $50 shipping for the item. I contacted the seller and told him to put the item value to $30 and he did, so UPS re-delivered a week later and now were only charging me $25 for COD.. I had no choice so I paid the scam artists. I learned that they basically charge 80% to 100% extra from USA and promised myself I would never buy from anyone that uses UPS to ship from the US.
The 3rd time I had to use UPS I felt worry free because it was on a shipment coming from Canada, so I knew I wouldn't get charged any Scam COD UPS fees. I waited a month, and the item did not come so I decided to give UPS a call and ask about my item, I got the tracking info from the seller and looked it up online. Apparently it was on the way back to the seller because UPS didn't find me in the building directory because my name is not listed. The address UPS was supposed to deliver to was clearly stated, my apartment number and address were very clear and they weren't able to figure that out. So basically if you live in an apartment building UPS will not deliver to you (unless you give them your buzz code and take a day off work to wait till they come). When I called them they lied to me and said they left me a notice in my mailbox, but there was no such notice, they made this up. I often use canada post and get a notice in my mailbox so I do actually get them, just not from UPS. Even if they had my buzz code I wouldn't be home because I work 9-5 and those are their primary hours.. they dont' do after 5 so I would have to miss a day of work. But say I even did take the day off, and they did have my buzz code and the item was on time.. the probability of UPS successfully executing this is very unlikely.
I think I had 1 successful ups transaction, where I was sending something out to BC from Ontario and thats the only time it worked out ok. I would not recommend using UPS for canada or US, the brokerage fees is a way to get more money for the shipment and are actually not customs fees. They dont inform you when an item has arrived and also dont know how to use a mailbox, and expect you to wait for them at home when they make a delivery.. this is only because they want to collect their scam brokerage fee.
All I can say is brown is a good color for them.....
