Pros: Large storage capacity!
Cons: Lost all my data on the disk with no prior warning! Had to reformat drive.
The Bottom Line: Don't buy unless you absolutely need the 160GB. Try removable drives instead.

| realengineer's Full Review: Seagate Personal Storage 3000XT 160 GB FireWire 40... |
The firewire electronics seem fairly uncomplicated; works well on Win2000 machine without further need to download any drivers. The Maxtor 1394 cards were a snap to install. Apparently there is some software issue with 1394 cards that have Ti firewire drivers in them; your typical firmware/spec interpretation issue.
The speed of the drive isn't too bad. Even at 5400rpm it doesn't take too long to transfer 40 to 80GB of data over.
However there is a disadvantage. First, as a EE I know something about drives.. and how to take care of them. I was handling them like eggs! Even with this utmost care, I ended up losing 160GB of data on the drive, just when I was going to back it all up! Need I say more?
