| killerinstinct's Full Review: Seagate Personal Storage 3000XT 160 GB FireWire 40... |
The 160GB provided by the Maxtor HD is more storage space than you'll ever need.
Right from the start, you'll be amazed with how simple it is to operate. Upon opening the box, you find the 4 necessary items: The Hard drive, the firewire cable, the power cable, and the step-by-step instructions. All it takes to install is just plugging in cables and restarting your computer.
With Windows XP, you can choose two different options on how you unplug the drive: you can either choose the "preformance" option, which slightly increases the speed of your drive, but requires you to "Stop" the device by clicking on an icon in the task bar when you want to remove it; or you can choose the "quick removal" option, which allows you to unplug the device at any time.
Although I mention that one of the Cons of the drive is it's physical size, its merely relative. The drive is not much larger than an external CD-RW drive. For 160GB of storage, that's pretty good. And if you ever need more, Maxtor's firewire series of drives can be hooked up to each other, allowing for incredible amounts of storage space.
Because this drive is only 5400RPM, I don't recommend it for video editing. But for storage of movies, music, or any other large files, it makes a great purchase. And Maxtor's tech support is excellent.
