A few months ago, I couldn't take it anymore! I wanted a computer with more speed, more RAM, a bigger hard drive. Most of all, I was tired of not being able to multi-task!
I finally purchased an iMac DV model. What color you ask? Well, I got Blueberry. Aside from its outward appearance to try to impress, it is just as beautiful on the inside. And the saying goes... Do not judge a book by its cover. Those of you who think that having a bright and translucent colored computer is dumb and/or an attempt to lure you in to a lemon deal, you are wrong!
The speed of this computer was impressive compared to my old Performa 6400 PowerPC. Then again, when I first purchased that computer, I was amazed at the incredible graphics and speed of that machine, too. But technology is ever-changing and as time goes on, we all get used to the things we have and somehow find a way to want (and often times) get more.
I received an extra 64 MB of RAM with my purchase, putting me at 128 MB now. I only had 32 on my other machine! I now get to fly on 400 MHZ, compared to my previous 180 and I am loving it! I can multitask with ease now, and not have to fear crashing from the lack of memory. I find that I am running at the same speed with little or no interference when opening multiple programs. I thought for sure that would slow me down a great deal, but it rarely does!
The graphics are crisp, sharp and amazingly clear. The color is amazing with millions of colors and I can see a true image. I can scan a photograph I took and look at it on the screen and it will look just as brilliant, often times even better than the original hardcopy of that photograph (of course, I love to dabble with some graphics programs). My computer came with a DVD movie (A Bug's Life - I have a review of this movie, too). It ran so smoothly, I could not tell that I was watching this on my computer screen vs a television screen. It didn't skip one bit and the sound matched the visual portion of the movie throughout.
Overall I am very pleased with my purchase.
The drawbacks (because nothing is as perfect as we'd like):
...There is no floppy drive. Although, I find little to no use for floppy disks anymore, I did have to make sure I stored all my old files onto a Zip disk in case I ever wanted to go back and look at anything I had saved in previous years. No problem; solved.
...This machine is not very easily upgraded, at least not with internal devices/peripherals. It has no empty spaces to install any internal devices, other than what it already comes with (non-removable DVD drive). I didn't really care about this since it has everything I want for my current needs in a computer and more. If I ever want to upgrade, I can purchase external devices and run them just as well.
