| J.Rockford's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Pavilion 6640C (D9287A#888) PC Des... |
I purchased the HP pavilion 6640C a few weeks ago and I am very pleased that I went with it. The basics on the 6640C include 500 MHz (AMD K-6), 64 mb, 15 gb, and a built in CDR drive. This model has tons of help features for first time users, and when you mention the $799.00 price tag and in my case a $50.00 rebate, this is one of the best buys for first time users. The sis530 video card is one of the downsides, but I can do with out, you could always upgrade if you want. The 6640C comes with your basic windows '98, polk audio speakers which do the job, but if you want some bass or something with better sound you will have to purchase them separately.
When price shopping I noticed that a person should go ahead and buy a system with a CDR drive, the price difference with and without are not that far apart, you might pay more if you bought one at a later time and installed it yourself, plus it's already part of the computer so I feel it runs more smoothly.
I would recommend that you do not purchase the standard '15 inch Hp monitor, for the price (around $239) you can look elsewhere for a '17 inch model.
So for first time users and people who want to see how a computer would benefit them this is the best deal on the market.
