I purchased this based on the recommendations of Compaq, my local server, and my neighbor. I had the good old (not) reliable Winmodem in my Compaq computer. After a years worth of phone calls to Compaq they suggested I upgrade my modem. They wouldn't admit that the cause of all my complaints was the modem, but reading between the lines, the technician personally recommended Robotics. He said he had it at home.
Well, I got up the nerve to try one. Compaq helped me disable my modem and left it in the tower. Then I followed the steps in the box and used the connections cd that came with it. (First though , I had to run to the store again. The connecting cord from PC to the modem wasn't included). It was an easy procedure but time consuming and a little scary for an intermediate like me. It increased my bps from 26,400 to 38,600!!. Compaq kept blaming the phone lines. I have ancient lines. They said it would help a little though. Well, I am very pleased with the performance!
Then I loaded the Windows ME upgrade and it enabled my Winmodem again! With the help of a neighbor, we took out the modem from my computer and put the connections cd in again. It still wouldn't connect. Then we used the floppy disk that came with the Robotics for Windows NT and we were in business again. Thank goodness!
This cost me $129.00 on sale. Pretty high, but if you are happy , you are happy. You would benefit if your pages load very slowly on the internet.
