If you have never seen a Sony monitor, you really owe it to yourself to check them out if you are looking for a new one. The virtually flat screen on the monitor gives an excellent picture compared to normal computer monitors. (it is VIRTUALLY flat, not flat, because some geek would pull out a straight edge and try to sue Sony if they said it was flat)
The price on this 15" monitor is around $200, which is about $50-$75 more than most other 15" monitors, but if you look at the difference between the pictures you will understand where the extra money went.
Sony computers use an aperature grill for their screens rather than the normal shadow mask that other monitors use. Basically this means that behind the screen there are a whole pile of little vertical metal strips that the picture is shot through. On other monitors, there is a slab of metal with holes in it that the light beams are shot through. The problem with doing it that way is that the picture has to be clouded a little bit to blend in the areas between the holes, thus the picture is not as sharp.
But with the Aperature Grill used in the Sony Trinitron Monitors, you don't have these areas around the holes to fill in, thus the picture is sharper. This is also why if you look at this monitor you will see a thin grey line about 1.3 of the way up from the bottom of the screen - it is holding the other wires still so the picture is clear.
Let me just put it this way - Gateway, Dell, and many others bought the right to use the Trinitron Technology in their monitors. They all pay Sony to use it, so obviously Sony is the best.
