| Granniemose's Full Review: Sony ES Series Model 200 17 inch CRT Monitor |
Since I have a new Sony Vaio PC, I needed a new monitor to serve it. This, too, was purchased from an auction, and I have to tell you, I am impressed.
First, it is pretty, and it makes me want to organize the clutter on my desk and keep things neat. Since we moved, my computer now occupies a corner of my bed room, and neatness is even more important now. Besides being neat, the monitor matches the Sony computer modem. The brochures from Sony call it slate blue and silver, but I call it two tone gray. It has a seventeen inch screen - which is nice when you want to watch a DVD on it. The styling is crisp, and most attractive.
The screen is flat instead of the slight bubble of most monitors. For some reason (my daughter calls it the contrast background) my eyes do not burn when I use the computer any more. That, to me, is a definite plus. She tells me that the screen directs reflected light away from the line of vision which reduces glare. If that is the reason I don't get burning eyes, and a forehead pain over my eyes, then - Halleluja. I am for it.
That being said, what I really like the best about this screen are the colors. The are bright, and true. They have no fuzzy outlines, and even the teeniest print shows up clear and readable when printed. It is great for the games I have played, and from the advertising banners all the games in this set up are now fun to play.
I have been told that the monitor sells for $300 to $350. Jude purchased the one she got me from an auction on UBid for $98.19, plus about $60 shipping charge. (The monitor is heavy.) Actually, I think Judith should write an opinion on UBid - she seems to have good luck on that web site.
There is one drawback, however. The new computer and monitor are so much fun to use now that the user (me) tends to neglect important chores sometimes. I get involved in reading other reviews on Epinions, and although I intended to spend only one-half an hour, I often look up three hours later and wonder how it got so late.
Bedtime is the worse, because both dogs sleep on pads in my bedroom. For some reason the computer makes them settle down and go to sleep like little babies. If I could only quit when they go to sleep, I would be fine. However, my 10:30 bed time too often lasts until 2:00 or 3:00 AM -which wouldn't be bad except promptly at 6:00 AM, both dogs decide they absolutely must go out, and they bark in my face until I wake up and let them out.
Maybe I should get a computer and monitor that is not so much fun to use: what do you think? Either that or less spoiled dogs.
