Best Bang for the Buck Laptop EVER!!

My daddy decided to buy me a laptop because of all the traveling I do throughout the year. I would have liked to own a desktop, but it just does not give me the flexibility and mobility a notebook does. Desktops are much less expensive and the performance is noticeably better. There is even an 800 mhz desktop out from Dell! My search for the perfect laptop began with creating a check list of qualitites I wanted in a computer.
1. atleast 366 mhz or above
2. Intel chip P-2 or Celeron (NO AMD!)
3. Built in 56k Modem and atleast 2 com ports
4. 24x CD rom
5. LOW PRICE
I considered the IBM thinkpad which ran about $1,522.00. I also looked at the Toshiba Satellites, which ran much higher pushing $2,000.00. However, I stumbled across the Acer line one day while surfing the web. The Acer 512Dx had all the criterion I desired in a laptop, and it compete effectively with other such as the IBM and Toshiba models. There was nothing this computer lacked. All for a price of around $1,300.00. There are only two downsides to this machine: 1. it is not an active matrix screen- which really doesnt matter too much. 2. There is only 32MB ram- but very much expandable. ADD another 32MB for around $100. Besides those two small flaws, this machine is the best purchase I have made. One cannot expect active matrix and 64MB ram for $1300.00. However, Acer does deliver alot of extras in this laptop. I have been using the Acer for about 2 months and all I can say is ... WOW. No problems and no complaints here. One feature I do think is really nice is that there is a built in CD player that can be used even when the laptop is off or idling. There are two high powered speakers loacted at the front of the design and is sufficient for listening to my MP3s! If you are looking for a laptop that has it all and for a damn low price...buy the ACER 512DX.
