| bizstone's Full Review: Apple PowerBook G3 (M7308LL/A) Mac Notebook |
Remember when Scotty picked up the mouse in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and spoke into it? I love that part. I’m just as attached to my PowerBook G3 as Scotty is to the Enterprise.
I am creative director of Xanga.com in Manhattan and I use my Powerbook at work designing the site, at home for sketching out ideas for paintings, writing, high resolution digital image manipulation, and surfing the Web.
My PowerBook is a beast of burden, I didn’t buy it for fun. All beat up from almost of year of daily abuse, this thing is a loyal companion. I’ve never run into a situation where it’s let me down.
The first time I went into work with it, a co-worker warned me that I’d probably need some kind of adapter to use the DSL. I just flipped open the little trap door on the back and plugged in. Later, I discovered a PC monitor in the office that looked expensive and wondered if it would work with my Mac. Plugged it right in, no problem.
The LCD screen on the PowerBook is ample and bright. The only time I’ve run into problems is when dealing with very light colors, when they are too light, they appear to be white and then hooking up to a huge monitor helps.
Another thing to note is that although the computer can be classified as a laptop, I don’t advise actually putting it on your lap as this can lead to extreme "warmth" and the eventual demise of the little rubber feet on the bottom (the adhesive can melt).
The ridiculous portability and power of the PowerBook G3 outweigh the nominal drawbacks. I bought mine JUST before they added firewire, but this could be a good thing because then I would have gone out and bought a digital camcorder and wasted even more time shooting and editing "Captain Biz Stone, Genius."
I needed the PowerBook because I was moving around a lot before I settled in Manhattan and now that I’m here it’s great because my apartment is "cozy." If you’re a creative professional and you really need something portable for work I highly recommend the PowerBook G3 with at least 128 MB Ram. If you want something more for fun, web, and work, you should get the iBook, Livia got one and she loves it.
