| mlwhitt's Full Review: Apple iBook Key Lime Special Edition 12.1 in. (M82... |
I am typing this epinion using my brand new iBook/SE. I purchased it just fourty-eight hours or so ago, and let me tell you this much... I love every part of it.... Well minus a few minor things that is...
One of the first things that I done was purchase a 128mb ram upgrade. The installation was super simple. Coming from largely a PC background I must say that this was most likely that easiest that I have ever add ram to any product. Just unplug, take out the battery, flip the keyboard, move the airport ram shield and install. It was simple enough my three year old nephew could have done it.
First I will get the few cons out of the way, and then if you survive them, which I am sure you will, then we will look at the many other pros to Apple's lastest work of art.
I have only three minor complaints. Number One: a mono speaker? Sure I can (and did) add external speakers, but it would have only took a little extra design work to add a second speaker to the system. And on that note it would have only added no more than a buck to the cost of the machine. Number Two: though the trackpad is very pretty to look at, and easy to use and very responsive, it's large size makes it easy to accidently hit. And the last of my gripes, Number Three: the cd-rom drive is a tad bit too un-rugged, but then again I have not used a system to date that had a rugged cd drive.
Now for the pros. Number One: The screen and graphics are just unbelievable. The screen itself is almsot worth the cost of the machine. I blew away my coworkers with the Bugdom game (included). My main desktop system is a AMD with a 16mb tnt video card, and I would take the 4mb video of my ibook anyday over it.
Number two: Speed, speed and oh yeah I already mentioned speed didn't I? As I already said I bumped my ram up to 192mb, but even before the upgrade the machine was blazing fast. Windows pop up with no problem. I was amazed at how well the machine moved when I had a multitude of applications loaded like Outlook, IE, a MP3 player, plus a few other applications.
Number three: if looks could kill, then my iBook would be guilty of murder. When I was walking down the streets of downtown Nashville everyone from grandmothers to young children gawked at my beautiful iBook. My coworkers were amazed at how 'unique' the machine is.
Number four: speed, yeah I know I already meantioned that, but I had to again.
I will certainly suggest that my friends and coworkers pick an iBook up for themselves. Heck I have already been to my local CompUSA leading people over to the blueberry/graphite/tangerine section.
Any PC or Mac user will find this a nice consumer machine.
