| mskeen's Full Review: Apple iBook Key Lime Special Edition 12.1 in. (M82... |
I have owned my Apple Ibook for two weeks now and I am consistently impressed by it.
I had been wanting to break free from the MS monster for some time, but Apple's are consistently too expensive. Finally, they created a consumer priced laptop that the average joe can buy.
I have the DVD version. I highly recommend it. You don't need CDRW duties all the time and for the price difference, you can buy an external CDRW drive. But, even if you don't need a DVD player, the 64MB of memory in the original won't cut it. You won't be able to run Mac OS X. The DVD is a good compromise.
This baby is stunning. I plan to paint mine so I can add a little color to it. There are plenty of sites that give directions on how to paint it comfortably.
Windows of course has many more available programs, but every program you need is either built into this baby (including mp3/music player, video player, DVD software, word processing, spreadsheet etc.) or can be purchased.
The case scratches easily, but you just need to get used to it. It isn't going to be shiny forever.
The hard drive could be bigger. The built in programs alone take up half the 10 GB hard drive. If you are into mp3's, get an external hard drive. Apple offers the option to upgrade to a 20GB, but it costs too much.
If you have been looking to switch from Windows, consider this notebook.
