1685 good buy.

Pros: nice affordable laptop with room to play. good sound and dvd w/ tft fairly cheap

Cons: amd k6 limited

The Bottom Line: if your looking for a good entry level lap top and you like to tinker, this could be it.

You can find this little treasue for fairly cheap these days, mine was 724 at office max. The nice thing is the ease of upgradeablity. it comes with a k6-2 380, which can easily be replaced with a faster chip, i opted for k6-2+ 475, under 50 bucks, and added 128 megs, 55 from crucial, so for about 800-900 you can have a fairly well functioning machine.
It's not the fastest or best performing machine but compaq made a fairly easy machine to work with, that is a joy to use. I would not pay more than 750 for it, though, and i wouldn't buy it refurbished either.
