I purchased this laptop because I needed something I could take to school with me to type up papers on my free time rather than wait for a computer at the computing commons. I go to school and schedule my classes before my husband has to go to work, so I need to save time as much as I can and I figured buying a laptop would help.
This laptop has an AMD K6II 400Mega Hertz processor, a 6.4 Gig hard drive, comes standard with 64MB RAM however I purchased mine with 128 MB, a v90 56k modem, 14.1 inch TFT monitor, and DVD. The computer has one USB port in the back as well as your normal serial and printer ports.
The computer came standard with Windows 98 2nd edition, Quicken and MS Money 99, Encarta 99, Word 2000, Map Quest and a few other programs.
I didn't really use anything except Word and Map Quest and found the other stuff more or less unnecessary for me.
I had a few problems with the computer when I purchased it. It would overheat and reboot itself for no reason. When it rebooted it would go into a loop and hit a certain point in the bootup process and just start all over again. In order to stop that you had to pull the battery out and wait a few minutes and try to start it up again. I called the customer service ppl regarding this and they sent a courier to pick up the machine. The only problem I had with the cust. service ppl is that I had to call 4 times to get the courier to show up. They'd give me a date and no one would show up, I'd call and ask why and they would mysteriously have no record of my computer in their system and would do it again. This happened 3 times until finally, the 4th time, someone came to pick the machine up. However when it was finally picked up the computer was fixed and returned in about 7 business days.
Overall the computer worked wonderfully for what I wanted it for: to write papers. I never intended to use this computer to its' full capabilities. I internetted on it once in a while, I played a few CD rom games on it when I had nothing else to do and when I ended up in the hospital for a few days that DVD CD-rom sure came in handy for watching DVD's.
The only thing I didn't like about this computer is that it was somewhat heavy. I couldn't put it in my back-pack with my other books because it really just weighed too much. So if you are looking for something rather light-weight a more compact machine specifically designed for lightness would be better.
