| samadust's Full Review: Fujitsu LIFEBOOK A4170 (FPC050221) PC Notebook |
Fujitsu PC is a subsidiary of the global conglomerate Fujitsu Limited. They claim to offer the worlds most "complete range of mobile solutions designed specifically to help you access, create, analyze and share information anytime, anywhere." They aim to design and innovate instead of conforming to tendencies of mass market notebook venders.
By making highly specialized and ergonomic notebooks they are creating high performance products that will increase mobile productivity. The Lifebook Series A provides speedy access to internet, email and programmable applications. It aims to be a replacement for the clunky desktop with its many ports and connections. It also has a built in CD rom and floppy disk drive.
The light and stylish silver A series Fujitsu lifebook is equipped with a 500MHz Intel Celeron processor, 100 MHz system bus speed and 32-bit bus architecture. It has 64MB of pre-installed RAM and a choice of 32MB, 64MB or 128MB of memory. The video display is 12.1" with an internal max resolution of 800 x 600 and an external of 1600 x 1200.
It also has a top of the line audio system based on a 32-bit Cirrus Logic Crystal Clear Audio Controller with headphone, stereo and microphone jacks. There is a built-in 56K modem and a touch pad pointing device.
The problem is that the rechargeable batteries have a maximum life of 2.5 hours per battery. This can be annoying. Yet the notebook comes packed in (of course) with a auto sensing, dual voltage support AC adapter.
It is about 12 inches wide, 10.7 inches from front to back and only an inch and a half high weighing about 7 pounds. It comes with the pre-installed Microsoft 98 second edition and Microsoft windows 2000 Professional and the docking option to connect a port replicator.
They also compliment this impressive package with a one year warranty and around the clock, toll-free technical support.
There are many different accessories already available for it including a:
Diplomat Traveling Case
Credit Card Modem
Universal LAN Hub
Monitor Stand
Extra Memory
Extra Strength Litium Ion Battery
Pocket Point Credit Card Sized Remote Control
The verdict
This is a product from a company that is often overlooked in America but their products are well worth the second glance. They are sturdy, easy to use and the technical support is great! At $1,499 this is a steal with a speedy processor, great design and warranty. I highly recommend it.
