Pros: Stylish design, nice display, both floppy and CD-rom drives are integrated
Cons: More expensive than its competitors, buttons on outside are annoying
The Bottom Line: The notebook computer in itself is in the performance average for entry-level units ans has nice styling. More expensive than competitors though.

| rfman's Full Review: Fujitsu LIFEBOOK A4170 (FPC050221) PC Notebook |
We purchased 2 entry-level notebooks at the office for various field work and for the occasion take-home work assignment.
After using one for about a month, I can say that the Lifebook A is a nice laptop to work with, though its only characteristic that stands out from the competition is it's styling. It has a nice silver-coloured outer shell, though it is still plastic (and not magnesium or titanium alloys as found in the high-end notebooks).
The configuration of our machines was quite average: Celeron 500 CPU, 64 Mb RAM, 6 Gb hard drive, 24X CD-ROM, 12.1-inch TFT display, integrated 56k modem, touchpad, win98 SE pre-installed.
The system works well, but similar (although less stylish) notebooks such as the IBM thinkpad i1250 and HP PAvilion n3438 are equivalent and cost less.
The Lifebook A also has quick launch buttons that are on the outside of the case near the wrist rest. These can be useful to quicky access certain applications, but I often end up pressing these buttons inadvertantly while working. This nuisance can be solved by uninstalling the software program that controls the buttons though.
