The Bottom Line: When looking for a laptop, don't forget to give HP a look. It has surpassed my expectations and compares favorably with the best.

The Omnibook XE2 I've owned for the past year is powered by a 450 Mhz. Celeron processor, and has a 12.1 inch TFT display. The CD ROM and floppy dives are built in so you won't have to worry about lugging extra peripherals around with you.
The unit is handsome, very sturdy and fairly lightweight at under 7 pounds. Expect to shell out some extra dollars for any software you need as practically nothing is included in the package.
The screen resolution is marginal. Colors are not vibrant, but washed out and grainy. Keyboard is well laid out and withstands the constant usage I subject it to.
The processor, though now outdated, nevertheless is fast and the 64 MB of RAM that came with the unit allows it to speed along quite nicely.
The built in 56K modem works flawlessly.
One thing that most reviews, professional reviewers, never fail to point out is HP's non toll free number for service. I can't comment on it because I have never once had to use it. Even on some of my previous notebooks from IBM and Dell ,I spent quite a bit of time with tech support and twice had to return their units for repair. This speaks well of HP's quality.
Usually when I buy a new laptop, every 2 years, price and brand recognition are the two key factors in my decision. HP certainly met my needs and will again have my business when it's time to upgrade.
