Two months ago, I traded in my 365XD for a 380ED. Since then, I have found my laptop to be excellently durable. I have dropped it three times, have bashed it into the wall, and have bumped it around a lot. My 380 is a P166, with 32 MB's of RAM, a 3 gigabyte hard drive, and a 12' screen. Going from my clunker 365 it was a major improvement. I think its performance is spectacular. I had a desktop P166 and my laptop performs right on par. I bought it three years used. The TFT screen is wondrous, and the integrated Cd/Floppy drive was a great improvement over having to bring along all those external drives. I have always considered IBM's support to be phenomenal. They are still putting out updates for systems 3 years out of date. I recommend IBM to people on that base alone. If you are out for a system, I would recommend IBM above all else. I found it a little heavy, but considering what its carrying, I'm not going to complain. My only real beef is the CPU fan. It makes almost as much noise as my desktop fan does. It can also get really hot after several hours of use. But it is getting along in years so I have to be forgiving. I got it in a trade in, so I only paid $300 besides my old notebook. I am very pleased with it and would recommend to just about anyone.
