Every thing revolves around your use of your laptop. I live in Hawaii and get income for Investing from the Internet.
Living here we go to the beach and the mountains allot. We take a lot of planes. The 240 enables me to bring in income and keep track of Stock and Commodities investments.
Everything is a trade off. In my case the 240 is perfect. About the smallest you can go is the size of your keyboard. The Thinkpad have always defined laptops keypads. This could be because it is made by the leading typewriter company or maybe because the people who build them use them. The keyboard is smaller but not at all toy like.
There is no sense having the screen smaller than the keyboard so the three pound size of the 240 naturally evolved.
The machine is quick and handy. It is new enough to run Windows 2000. The 240 is faster than the Internet.
I love my Thinkpad. MiniFin.com pays anyone to surf the web. The 240 is perfect for this purpose. Email, calendars, data all can be stored on the Web. There is little if no need for a floppy or a CD. If you have little need for bulk in your life as I do, you need to take a long look at the three pound Thinkpad 240.
Like all Thinkpads this is no toy. It is as good as or better than any desktop. Do you watch TV when you are on the net? 25% of computers are in the same room as the TV. Do you sometimes want to move into a different room? You can move your Thinkpad from room to room, house to house, car to car with ease. Anywhere you are more comfortable.
Do you go to the mountains to organize your thoughts? You can plug the 240 into your cars lighter. Do you wait for people at the beach? The Mall? You can make productive use of this time with the 240. Have you ever been bored at an airport? Thinkpad is the cure.
Some people mention they want longer battery life. For an Internet machine this is mute. If you are close enough to plug into the web you are close enough to plug in for juice.
When I lived on the Big island we only had undependable solar electricity. But we had phone service. We just plugged the 240 into the rent-a-cars lighter, plugged into a phone line and went to work.
You can earn a living anywhere you can get Internet access with a Thinkpad. I only get "Paid to surf the net." I need a CD to load major software very seldom. Don't need to lug a CD or a floppy around. I use the net for storage, I get most of my software from the net. I use the Thinkpad to access the Internet using free ISP's. The @40 is free and easy.
When you are evaluating the purchase of a Thinkpad you have to decide how important your lap top is to you as an entertainment center.
If you want to carry around an entertainment center with you all of the time you will need a Thinkpad with a DVD, if you go DVD then you will need a bigger screen. All of this extra cost and inconvenience for the privilege of seeing movies at $25.00 each. Much nicer to just move into the room with the TV and VCR.
The smallest, smartest, sturdiest resides in the smallest.
