| Remind's Full Review: Lenovo ThinkPad 570 (5703BUK) PC Notebook |
I'm flying home from Florida writing this review on a new IBM ThinkPad 570 that I borrowed from the office. I really like this laptop! I've used several other laptops made by competitors and this one seems easier to me for some reason. I will try to tell you why as I use this one.
The screen is crystal clear with very little glare or distortion. The only other screen that compares is the Apple my son recently purchased.
The keyboard is the closest to my desktop that I have used so far. This to me a very important plus. Working on several different computers each day, each with keyboards a bit different from the last can be very frustrating. I always seem to be adjusting to a new size and shape not to mention the differences in how sensitive the keys are and how much pressure is needed to produce a result. This one just seems to fit! The key spacing is almost identical to my desktop at home yet this is so compact. This whole computer measures about 14" X 16" all totaled and is about 2" thick closed up. (That's a wild guess by eye, I'm not carrying a ruler on this trip!) I'm not sure of the weight but my guess is 2-2 ˝ lbs. Which is great! Of course when you add the carrying case and all the wires and other paraphernalia I've stuffed into the carrying case it's another suitcase!
ARGGGHH!!!!…. The woman behind me was complaining of a strange smell, the stewardess is sniffing around. She opens the overhead compartment one seat behind me to find milk dripping out of a plastic bag and all over everything. SOUR MILK! YIKES! A mother next to the complainer says that was from the rental car and was garbage her husband was suppose to throw out. Husband blushing, chimes in from the window seat across the aisle…."Sorry hon, didn't realize that." Whew! The sour milk just missed me. I can just see it now, me trying to explain sour milk in the laptop when I return it to the office!
Back to the computer, another thing I really like about this ThinkPad is the how easy it is to manipulate the mouse. This one has a little button in the middle of the keyboard that is used like your mouse at home to move your curser arrow around the screen. Then on the surface of the laptop just in front of the keyboard are 2 mouse buttons much like on any mouse but positioned with the left button in front of the right button. I've used these little button cursers before and I'm not crazy about them but this one moves very easily and unlike most stays visible while it's in motion. I have a friend who just purchased a Toshiba and I found the button mouse on that computer much harder to use. The arrow would disappear as soon as you moved it unless you were moving very slowly! The keys on the Toshiba are larger than the normal desktop keys so I found myself hitting 2 keys at a time very often. This can really slow you down and be very annoying!
I checked the specs on this and it came with 6 gig of hard drive and has 128 meg of ram. That's pretty good! More than some desktops come loaded with!
Well the plane is beginning to descend and I'm going to be forced to turn this off in a few minutes.....so I'll wrap this up. I really like this laptop! Of the different manufactures I've used this is by far the easiest to use. It's sleek, fast, easy to manipulate and has tons of room.....What more could you ask for? The ThinkPad however, it is probably more expensive than the others too so I guess you could ask for a lower price tag. If I were purchasing one I would have to say I would be leaning in the direction of the ThinkPad!
P.S. When I returned this computer to our tech support people I learned even more about this model. The laptop has 2 sections that come apart. The computer can be detached from the base which contains an additional battery and the two additional drives for the CD and the floppy. When the computer is separated from the base it is even smaller! Only about 1 inch thick......AMAZING!!!!!!
