Purchased this laptop a few weeks ago and am thrilled with it! I was looking for a system that had an integrated CD and floppy, along with a large screen, but didn't want to spend $4000. This fit the bill perfectly. It is available in a number of different configurations with the major differences being screen size and processor (12", 14" or 15" screen and a 500Mhz Celeron or 700Mhz PIII processor). I chose the 500MHz Celeron, with a 12 GB HD, 15" screen and an upgrade to 192MB Ram. Surprisingly, the more expensive A20m, with the PIII processor, is not available with the 15" screen. For that you have to get the A20p which is a good $1500 more.
This machine is fast - it boots into Win98 SE in under a minute not including startup items. I loaded a ton of software on it with no issues, and no blue screens (yet). I travel on a train everyday and anyone who sits next to me mentions how large the screen is. Also, it's not the heavy behemoths that I've had in the past with a listed travel weight of 7lbs.
I chose this over the Sony Vaio, as this seems like a more solid product. I spoke to a few Vaio owners who weren't pleased with how well the unit held up over time - the keyboard and cover were flimsy by comparison to the Thinkpad.
Although the paper documentation is sparse, and nothing showed me where to put the extra memory chip, there really were only 2 places it could go on the bottom of the machine. Had no trouble installing it, and the extra RAM was recognized immediately. Also, I have need of a CD-burner at work, and use an external USB ZipCD. Hooked it up in no time, with absolutely no conflicts, and no "coasters" (CD's that get corrupted during creation) out of 30 CD's.
Overall, this was a great purchase and I look forward to owning this notebook for a long time. I highly recommend this unit.
