Well, I thought I'd give a second opinion after having this little beauty on the road for a while. I travel for a living across 17 States by car, and rely heavily on the laptop I have for so very much indeed. I have now had this unit on the road for a couple of weeks and it hasn't so much as coughed. Not only does the unit I have NOT get hot under the hard drive area, but get's only perceptably warm after several hours of use. I of course defrag, scandisc and clean the registry on a regular basis. I don't load a ton of flaky software, and most of all (IMHO) am not operating with the notoriously buggy Windows 2000 which I now have on good authority will make ANY laptop run warmer than with the 95/98/ME versions of Windows.
I have also now burned over 140 CD's for the company using an outboard Panasonic SCSI PCMCIA CD-RW unit, all without so much as ONE coaster. The unit has been 100% reliable, has not failed to boot into Windows once, and has not frozen up on me. I find the video performance to be nothing short of amazing (take note gamers.)
The sound get's me taking a double take all the time as one would not expect the full sound it has to eminate from a lonely single speaker. The screen is also a bright, color saturated joy and I don't get tired looking at it. I videoconference nightly with the wife on NetMeeting, chat with friends on various chat rooms and do my business expenses, all without any incident.
I can not say enough good things about this little wonder, as after having 6 different laptops over a 10 year span, this is clearly my very favorite for all of the above reasons. For any person who travels this unit is a MUST and IMHO still feel it is the best little performer out there for anywhere near it's price.
