Pros: None. However, had it worked it would have been great.
Cons: You are playing russian roulette with your very expensive toy.
The Bottom Line: Run, don't walk, away from this one.

| lauryn_hill's Full Review: Rudenko 8megspalm- Palm V Memory Upgrade |
I would stay far, far away from this upgrade.
I had my palm upgraded to 16MB using Tony Rudenko's PDA upgrade service (www.palmpilotupgrade.com) and am now experiencing a major problem with USB syncing. I cannot get Mr. Rudenko to answer any of my e-mails. My palm will not sync using the USB port and desktop 2.6.3 for the MacOS, but it will sync just fine using desktop 4.0. Unfortunately, since the 3 main programs I use (DocsToGo, AvantGo and Acrobat Reader) do not have conduits for desktop 4.0, upgrading to it just to get USB syncing is not feasible.
I suspect that PalmOS 4.1 is to blame. Mr. Rudenko apparently installed OS 4.1 on my palm while doing the memory upgrade. I did not ask for, nor did I expect him to upgrade the operating system to 4.1. Nothing about my computer set up has changed since I sent in my palm. I am running MacOS 9.1. I also tried syncing with MacOS 9.2 just out of curiosity. USB snyc doesn't work with 9.2 either. Just to make sure that it wasn't my system files or palm desktop files that were corrupted I have reinstalled both sets of files (using a clean install for the system files). Nevertheless, no USB syncing. I can sync okay using an IR sync but this is very slow and cumbersome.
When I contacted palm about the issue they replied:
"Unfortunately, Palm(TM) Inc. does not support Palm(TM) m505 handhelds that have had their OS upgraded to a non-usb operating system.(The Palm(TM) OS 4.1 upgrade was intended for serial based Palm(TM) handhelds that do not utilize a USB cradle)"
I have tried to contact Tony Rudenko several times but he has only responded to one of my e-mails. In that e-mail he advised me to upgrade to the latest version of the Palm Desktop even though I explained to him why that was not feasible. His response seemed to be that he couldn't really help me because he "lived in the PC world". However, his website and advertising does NOT state that he only works with PC customers.
I have written to him several times to request that he restore PalmOS 4.0 on my handheld to no avail. Advice to all...stay away.
