Ahhhhh...Palm and their wisdom of making small things useful....
I have been using the Palm Portable Keyboard for about 1 year now. I can say that I am almost completely satisfied. The "PPK", made by Palm, Inc. is a master of combining simplicity and usability.
THE IMPORTANT PARTS
WHO - Like, I said, Palm Inc.
WHAT - The PPK is a foldable keyboard that compacts easily for transportation. When needed, the PPK unfolds in just a second or two and becomes a somewhat normal-sized keyboard. There are 57 "normal keys" with 13 "other keys" that are used for a variety of purposes.
Folded, and nestled in its carrying case, the PPK is about 5.25 x 3.75 x 1 inches, about the same size as 2 packs of cigarettes (although I don't smoke). The case has just enough padding to keep away the scratches, nicks, and bumps. The case does not insure a safe landing after an accidental drop.
Unfolded, the PPK is about the size 13.5 x 5 x .5 inches. With the palm mounted in the keyboard, the height is about 3.5 inches.
WHEN - N/A
WHERE - The PPK is sold all over the place. I bought mine directly from Palm, for 99 bucks.
WHY - I use my PPK for a lot of reasons. I am a pilot, so I am away from home a lot. Sometimes, I do not want to bring my cumbersome laptop, so I bring palm and its accessories. (Keyboard, modem, Omnisky) With the accessories, I have access to E-mail and the web, and just about everything that I need on those 1-2 night trips. It is much easier to respond to E-mail and other typed documents with the PPK rather than sitting all night, trying to use just Graffiti. Unfortunately you cannot use the PPK and other accessories at the same time. This is a big negative.
HOW - the Palm clips into the top of the PPK, and with its symbiotic relationship, it uses the Palm power source and does not need a power source of its own. As far as using the Palm's power, I have not seen any power drain from using the PPK
